To the Inferno

By: Andrea | July 26th, 2009

Chivas started off the Apertura 2009 with a loss. Although the team managed to climb back in an exciting game, they literally lost in the last second of the game.

Meanwhile, let’s congratulate two of our Chivas first team-ers for their Gold Cup 2009 Championship. You represented Chivas well Johnny Magallon and Alberto Medina!

Chivas opened the scoring for the game between the two teams. It was none other than Chicharo who scored the first goal after a pass by Ramon Morales in the center circle during breakaway in the 6th minute.

In the 20th min Toluca scored one of their own. Nestor Calderon lost Araujo and made it 1-1.

Toluca scored again in the 37th min to make it 2-0. Raul Nava scored off a header by breaking away from Reynoso, and putting it past Michel who just stood by to make it 2-1.

In the second half it was Toluca once more who stepped up. Sinha outpaced Pineda and Reynoso to send it straight past Michel for a 3-1 lead.

Chivas wasn’t giving up. In the 79th minute Ramoncito took a free kick, and Aaron Galindo crouched down and was able to connect with the ball to make it 3-2.

Again, in the 82nd minute Chivas had a free kick. Ramoncito took it once again, but this time curled it from the right side of the field to even it up 3-3.

With only seconds remaining in the game, Reynoso was sent off for moving during a Toluca free kick. It was retaken and Israel shot over the wall to give Toluca the 3-4 win.

Chivas didn’t win today. But it wasn’t a complete mess either. While there needs to be work on silly mistakes there are positives. For one, even though we were 3-1 down, Chivas came back to level the game and kept trying to get the winner. They didn’t give up! I like the look of the team, and with Chicharo and Arellano(when he’s not broken anymore) are going to cause trouble. And with Medina performing tons better at Chivas than in the national team that’ll be great too. Plus, Magallon will be back in his place as well providing the much needed coverage at the back.

The next game is against Tigres on August 1.
