The Ref Royally Screwed Us Over at the Monarchs
By: Andrea | February 22nd, 2009
I think we can all agree that this was not a good week. A loss to Toluca, a draw against a dismal Monarcas de Morelia…I blame it on playing too much.

DT Tomás Boy
Guadalajara

17 Sergio Amaury Ponce

4 Héctor Reynoso
19 Jonny Magallón
11 Ramón Morales (Édgar SolÃs 76′)
7 Gonzalo Pineda
18 Xavier Báez
8 Marco Fabián (Patricio Araujo 68′)
10 Alberto Medina
27 Carlos Ochoa (Javier Hernández 68′)
DT EfraÃn Flores
Alright. Well we started the game with a fair amount of possession. We had control and everything was going well. It all culminated in the 10th minute when Sergio Amaury Ponce rushed into the area and scored a god header. Morales had previously done a thrown in which was taken over by Ochoa, back to Morales who crossed high. Ponce ran like monster and knocked the ball out of Morelia’s goalkeeper into the goal to make it 1-0.
In the 63rd the ref called a penalty that was definitely not a penalty. If there was ever a claim about getting screwed it was definitely during this game. Mendoza claimed that Ponce pulled him down. But NO! Ponce fell down and had no contact that would warrant a penalty. Well, apparently that doesn’t matter and it was awarded against us. The ball went in and we were at 1-1.
Again in the 86 there was a penalty claim. At first sight it didn’t seem like it was true but upon replay it was obvious that the call should have been made. Of course, it wasn’t or I wouldn’t be complaining. Although it was hard to judge from far away this had more merit than the call that went against us.
Our next game is against Everton of Chile at the Estadio Jalisco for the Copa Libertadores. Hopefully, we can really start over this time. These last few games haven’t been that great. And to make it worse, America won. What is the world coming to?
Seriously, not a good time.
