Pachuca and Chivas split points on Saturday night in the battle between Mexico’s first team and Mexico’s team.

Pato Araujo and Faustino Arizala each scored a goal to give their teams a point.

Chivas going out against Pachuca with Michel, De Luna, Ponce, Jonny, Pérez, Araujo, Báez, “Bofo”, Fabian, Arellano, Bravo.

Both teams tried to attack from the start, but neither had too much luck. Most of the shots taken ended up flying far from the net.

One shot in the 14th minute by Cvitanich tested Luis Michel, but the Chivas goalkeeper showed his reflexes with a spectacular save.

It wasn’t until the 40th minute that Chivas had any luck. Pato took a shot from far out that didn’t have too much behind it. However, Miguel Calero couldn’t control the ball and it rolled into the back of the net.

In the second half, it didn’t take too long for Pachuca to equalize. Faustino Arizala headed in a ball into the net to make the score 1-1.

Ten minutes later Michel made the save again. Cvitanich went up against Michel and almost had a clear path at the goal, but his shot ended up hitting the goalkeeper first to end up going wide.

Next, it was Chivas’ turn in the 75th minute to almost double the scoring. Omar Bravo received the ball with his chest, but had trouble controlling it to lay it perfectly in his path. Miguel Calero was able to push it away and prevented the player from scoring.

Near the end of the game several small fights broke out. Xavi Baez went into a tackle a little to harsh and the Pachuca player retaliated by pushing Baez. Bravo didn’t take to that to well and went to retaliate.

There was more that escalated later in the game. In all honesty, both sides deserved at least a red card each. The game was pretty heated and shouldn’t have escalated to those levels. However, part of the blame also goes to the referee. He didn’t have much control over the game.

As for Chivas, they didn’t play too well. Luis Michel had to save the team too many times. I don’t think a win would have been fair because the team did not play well, so a draw works out. But the team is improving, slightly.

The next game is against Jaguares. They won this weekend by putting four past Puebla. Now, this might seem to indicate that they are doing pretty well, but in all reality they really are not. That was their first win of the season, and Puebla hasn’t had a solid record. So, if Chivas are on the ascent this will be another great game to get back on track with points.

an overall sloppy game. with MA Ponce committing a handful of mistakes and De Luna’s bad marking, Reynoso’s absence in the back line was made even more notable. Arellano still doesn’t appear to be in rhythm, and Bofo… Bofo was pants. again. i don’t understand why Real waits so long to make substitutions; if not at halftime, then no longer than 10 mins into the second half. Vasquez should have come on way sooner, Davila instead of Sanchez, Arellano off instead of Bravo and Enriquez for Araujo (well, had he made the trip).

as for Pachuca’s claim of being “el equipo de Mexico”, well… i was gonna go into a full-blown rant, but these idiots don’t deserve the time/energy. false advertising. those little gophers can suck it, and keep on sucking it. ’tis all.

and in non-Pachuca-hating news, four Chivas players will be at a San Diego area store tomorrow for an autograph/photo op session in anticipation of Tuesday’s “ChivaClasico” at Petco Park, and i will most definitely be in attendance.

they haven’t advertised which players will actually be there, but i doubt any of the “more popular” ones (Michel, Magallon, Bravo, Bofo, Reynoso, Arellano) will be among the four.

my predictions: Michel Vasquez, Chore Mejia, MA Ponce (born in Sacramento) and Jorge Enriquez (born in Mexicali). total speculation and arbitrary explanations for the choosing, but it’s a guess. the proof will be in the pictures (and videos, if i decide to shoot; will definitely do both for the game on Tuesday).

they will then practice at UCSD in the late afternoon, but i’m not sure if it’s open to the public. maybe i’ll give it the ol’ college try and find out for myself…

Michel is really saving Chivas’ butt right now. He’s been doing it for a little too long, but especially now. Let’s hope that he doesn’t get injured because that would be a crucial blow.

I never though I would say this, but Reynoso’s absence was noticeable. But he was in the hospital so there wasn’t much to do about that one. Magallon needs to get back. In my eyes his level has dropped dramatically.

That sounds like so much fun. I wish I could go to that. I don’t know who will be there, but I’d think that Michel would make an appearance. He tends to pop up in those events. Bofo probably won’t just because he might be subjected to too much abuse. I love Mejia though. He’s a player that I always enjoy watching. Good luck meeting them! Hopefully you won’t have to wait in line for too long.

thanks! i’m about to leave for it right now, and i can’t wait, but i have a lingering doubt that this might not really happen. i dunno, it’s just that it hasn’t been promoted widely (just a mention in a local calendar of events) and it happens to be at such a small store. but i hope my doubts are debunked.

Michel may just be there; he and Real held a press conference today at the hotel they’re staying at (right next to Petco), which can be seen here: http://www.chivascampeon.com/noticia/10582/
and i’m almost 100% certain that Ponce will be there, as he has family in the Tijuana/San Diego region (and was received quite well at the airport yesterday).

so, who knows. hopefully, this’ll be really fun. i’ll come back & tell ya how it – and the game – went!

Every time i’ve watched them lately Michel has looked good, and yes, they concede too many headers. This was evident in the libertadores final unfortunately. If the centre backs struggle to defend them (all players have weaknesses) then it is up to the wider players to stop the deliveries coming in, which isn’t happening sadly. Hopefully it will all be sorted out soon though.

I eagerly await the next game, i sense a win.
