Let Them Have Their Fun…

By: Andrea | March 15th, 2009

The game all about pride was lost. Was it deserved? Sure. After so many opportunities, after having an extra man on the field after 26 minutes of play Chivas still managed to go dry up front. So to Atlas: good job. You did well. Especially you Gallardo. It must not be easy to play in El Classico Tapatio, and much less have that be your debuting game. And you’re 3rd choice at your club? Wow. Enjoy your time now because we’ll get you next time.

Ok. So we had a few chances in the opening minutes by Morales and Arellano. They didn’t do much and that explains Arellano for most of the game.

Atlas had a good chance in the 9th minute when the defense scuffled in the box. It seems like they were appealing for a handball and were being messy with the clearing. Marioni was able to take advantage of the situation but Michel stopped the ball from going in.

Was it, or wasn’t it? In the 26th minute Canales was sent off for a studs up challenge on Ponce. While at first it does seem worthy of a red card, replays showed that Canales didn’t touch Ponce while out in the midfield. Nevertheless, Canales was shown a direct red card and Atlas was left with 10 men.

It wasn’t until the 66th minute that Chivas had another worthy shot. Marco Fabian took the ball from outside the box and shot it. Gallardo, the new keeper, managed to stop and the rebound was left for Morales who was unable to do much from his tight angle.

Then Borgetti in the 84th had the best chance of the game. His header hit the cross bar and the chance was missed.

At the end of the game Atlas was given a penalty. Reynoso had held on to an Atlas player during a corner kick and the ref gave him a yellow card and Atlas a penalty. Marioni went up to take the shot and Atlas went up 1-0.

So perhaps this wasn’t the best game. There were too many missed chances and the goals have just dried up. It sucks because you could see that Chivas got cocky with the extra man advantage and didn’t take the game too seriously from the early stages with an extra man. Too bad because the game all about pride was lost. And to make things worse, America won this weekend.

Aaron Galindo also seems to have a little problem and hopefully it’s not too serious and he recovers soon.

The next game is against Tigres on March 21st.

Let them have their fun? Atlas jumped from 9th overall to 7th, thus jumping Chivas and placing themselves in the liguilla, I think they had more than fun.
