Drowning In Goals
By: Andrea | March 1st, 2009
What a match. Again.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t think that Chivas could do it. At least not in this way. Chivas were going into a game against the SuperLider, Pachuca. The Pachuca who was still unbeaten. The Pachuca who battered us last time 5-2. The prospect wasn’t exciting. But then again, Chivas are like a kinder egg. There’s always a surprise whether you end up liking it, or not.

This turned out to be a physical game. There were fouls flying around and people knocking each other like there was no tomorrow. It continued all game but this is what was the most prevalent in the first half.
The second half was more exciting.
In the 46th minute a corner was earned from a previous play between Xavi Baez and Chicharo Hernandez. Ramoncito Ramirez quickly took the corner and Aaron Galindo scored his first goal for Chivas via header. 1-0.
Not too long after in the 69th Omar Arellano, yes Omar Arellano(Jr. not Sr. on the touchlines) scored his first goal of the season coming back after long term injury. It was good goal as he received a cross from Xavi Baez and headed it into the goal. 2-0.
Next, in the 74th, Chivas were awarded a penalty. Reynoso was pulled down by his shirt and lovely locks by Edgar Benitez. The ref pointed to the spot and Pineda took the ball. He blasted it to Calero’s right and the keeper never had a chance. 3-0.
Almost 10 minutes later, in the 83rd, Chivas was awarded ANOTHER penalty. This time it was because super Omar Arellano had made some Pachuca players jealous with his sweet skillz. He ran with his super speed and got through two defenders and was fouled a couple of times on the way. It wasn’t for that reason that the ref called the 2nd penalty. Arellano had passed the ball to Medina who was taken down by Mustafa. Mustafa was then awarded a 2nd yellow for his night’s efforts and sent off. Reynoso took the shot this time making it 4-0.
Right near the end in the 89th Omar Arellano once again showed up. Medina had shot at Calero who denied him a goal. The ball rebounded out and Arellano was there to tap it in for his second goal of the night and a final score of 5-0.
I can’t say I have any complaints. Everyone played really well and there was never a moment of serious concern. The first half was kind of boring but it was worth the wait for 5 goals. Hopefully the goal well doesn’t dry up because 11 goals since Wednesday is a massive amount. And it wasn’t against particularly weak opposition.
Now that Arellano is back I don’t see Borgetti getting many chances. Ochoa was left on the bench and Chivas did perfectly well without him. Arellano is what has been missing and these goals are sure to build up his confidence. One of the problems that footballers have after coming back from a long term injury is confidence and Arellano will be just fine in that department I believe. Plus, he’s a fan favorite, part of a family legacy…its just mean to be.
With Omar Bravo returning to Mexico I bet he’s regretting leaving a bit right about now.
The next game is against Caracas FC of Venezuela on Tuesday, March 3 in Venezuela. The boys have a long journey ahead of them and although they may be away I think that right now they’re shaking a little in Venezuela. We can only hope for the best.
And………I heard that Michel is getting married on the commentary of the game? If this is true, good luck! Hopefully there’s as much luck off the pitch as there is on it.
