Clausura 2009 Awards
By: Andrea | May 20th, 2009
It’s awards time! So who will come away the winner? Will anyone get the award they receive? Do they even make sense?
Most Deserving of a National Team Call Up: Luis Michel! He only received 20 goals, and was an important figure of the team. Last season his absence became obvious, and there was vibe showing that he can’t be replaced. He was in Sven’s eye before he got injured…so Aguirre! Put this one on your list.
Worst Luck: Johnny Magallon. He was injured in last season’s Classico, and then came back for the Jornada 2. After finally regaining his level, he got injured again. Guess where? In El Classico. Playing against America is not good news for this guy which is why he get’s the Worst Luck award.
Best Goal: Chicharo against San Luis. Look at the buildup, the team work. Ah! It was wonderful.
Best Win: The game against Pachuca. 5 goals. At home. 4 Different goalscorers. One amazing night. And we broke Pachuca’s unbeaten record.
Worst Loss: The 0-1 loss against Atlas. Frickin’ 90th minute penalty that could have not been. The loss of that point that would have come from the draw would have meant so much. Like a possible place in the Liguilla. And it was our last game at “home” against Atlas before moving into our new stadium. Stupid Zorros.
Most Interesting Signing: Jared Borgetti. I still don’t understand why he was signed on. He’s old, and yes at one time he was good, but it just didn’t really go with the Chivas mold. Now, he’s gone. Is anyone surprised?
Worst Disappointment: Carlos Ochoa. After giving us hope in the early games of the season, he soon plateaued, and from there you know what happened. He went on to Tapatio A(the lower division team), and his future is now unknown. With a player that showed and has much potential, his failure was disappointing.
Best Signing: This award was more difficult to give out. It goes to Aaron Galindo. He has been an important part of our back line. Silent, but strong, he’s helped avoid goals while scoring some important ones in the process.
Drama:The ongoing saga of Efrain Flores. He was fired. Then he was back. The managerial aspects of this team were entertaining to watch as the carousel moved round and round.
Best Young Player: Edjar Mejia. The 20 year old defender has been one of the players most present on the field. He’s stuck through the decisions of the managers that have come and gone. His contributions were noticeable and he will only get better next tournament.

I think they signed him as a chance to makeup for lost time. Remember some years ago when he was on fire and the whole year, especially the summer, was filled with rumors about Chivas and Borgetti.
