Chivas Goes On A Killing Spree
By: Andrea | February 26th, 2009
Chivas have seemed quite tame this season haven’t they? They’ve lacked goals and it seems like no one can finish. That was then. This is now. Chivas didn’t seem themselves as they played Everton of Chile. And I liked it.

Within the first minutes Chivas was attacking really well. It didn’t take long for the first goal of the night to show up. That’s right. In the 18th minute Ponce did this really cool volley to put us up early in the game.
The next goal didn’t take too long after. In the 22nd minute Chivas was awarded a penalty. Marco Fabian had gone into the area, but an Everton player had put their hand across his neck. So naturally Morales came up to take it and scored for a 2-0.
Then in the 33rd minute a play started from within Chivas’ own half. Magallon quickly spotted Medina and sent the ball his way. Medina was all alone and came up against the goalkeeper 1 on 1. The pressure didn’t get to him and he quickly chipped the ball over the keeper to make it 3-0.
Ochoa seemed to be the only one without any goalscoring magic. Again in the 37th minute Chivas had another chance. Morales shot the ball into the area looking for Ochoa but he stuck out his leg a little funny and sent the ball a bit wide. The Everton goalkeeper had been focusing on Ochoa and ignored the danger that is Fabian who put the ball into the net to make it 4-0.
Going into the break I bet all the guys were full of confidence. As they came back out it was quickly shot down.
In the 50th minute the defense had a lapse and Everton scored their first goal via Gutierrez. He was left alone against Michel and he quickly took advantage of this with a powerful shot and made it 4-1.
Only moments later Aaron Galindo stumbled in the Chivas area and touched the ball…with his hands. So, Everton were awarded a penalty. It went in, and the reduced the score to 4-2.
Chivas was not to be outdone. In the 77th Xavi Baez came up with an incredible play. He fought for the ball and sent in a cross that was met by Chicharo Hernandez. The game was then 5-2.
Only 10 minutes later in the 87th Medina made another great cross into the area. Chicharo and Borgetti were both on site but Chicharo got to the ball first to head it in for a 6-2 scoreline.
Eventually the game had to come to an end and Borgetti had the last chance of the game. In the 92nd he had a weak header that was saved by the Everton keeper to deny him his first goal of the season.
I’ve got to say that the game was very impressive. I haven’t seen that kind of attitude from Chivas in a long time. The game against Everton was expected to be tougher but it was just a demolition. They’d been the sole group leaders but they just didn’t show up tonight.
Medina was the best player in the game. Looking at his involvement in the majority of the plays and goal definitely shows that.
On Saturday a tough game against Pachuca will be played and hopefully the goals weren’t all used up today.
In the Libertdores we’re up against Caracas next and they won this past game against Lanus. We’re away this time but if we keep moment going we should be fine.
