Chivas Beat Some Caracas(s)
By: Andrea | March 12th, 2009
This game was better than expected. Chivas haven’t done really well in the past week, and before I was a little worried. We hadn’t done too well in the past 2 games and coming into this one seemed to be along the same lines. First, hats off to Aaron Galindo who’s had perhaps the best game in the Chivas shirt all season.

1 Luis Michel
17 Amaury Ponce
19 Jonny Magallón
3 Aarón Galindo
7 Gonzalo Pineda
18 Xavier Báez
13 Sergio Ávila

10 Alberto Medina
21 Jared Borgetti
27 Carlos Ochoa
DT Efraín Flores
Caracas FC
25 Renny Vega
2 Deivis Barone
5 Jaime Bustamante
4 Gabriel Cichero
9 Rafael Castellin (Emilio Rentería 31′)
11 Rodrigo Prieto
14 Jesús Gómez

19 Giovanny Romero
21 Darío Figueroa
OK, so up until about the 30th minute, Carlos Ochoa had about 4 clear chances in the game. He missed them all and his confidence is clearly dropping. The cameras also panned the players on the bench and you could see them all commenting on all the missed opportunities.
In the 38th minute there was a handball claim by Gonzalo Pineda. His shot was stopped on the line by a Caracas player and the ref never gave anything. It was a very close call but it looked like the ball had hit the player on the chest/shoulder.
Medina had a very good chance in the 43rd minute but the Caracas goalie came out and saved the by the soles of his boots.
Coming back in the 48th Ochoa had another chance, which he missed.
The closest shot of the game came in the 56th minute when Medina shot the ball first, had it rejected and sent in front of Borgetti who shot the ball wide.
Not too long after, in the 59th, Magallon was thrown out of the game for his harsh tackle on a Caracas player. The yellow card was his second, and the captain of the night left Chivas with 10 men on the field.
In the 77th Caracas had one of their best chances of the game. A player came up against Michel, rounded him and shot at an open net. Luckily, Galindo rushed in front of the goal and prevented the ball from going in.
It wasn’t until the 80th minute that someone scored. Pineda had taken a free kick right outside the area which Galindo met with a header. He scored and Chivas were up 1-0.
In the 92nd minute Caracas again came close to scoring. They had a shot which rebounded off the post and off Panchito Mendoza’s back into the hands of Michel. The Caracas players saw that Michel was on the line with the ball just outside and they tried to push him over until the ref stopped the action.
So with the win Chivas went up on top of group 6 in the Copa Libertadores.
The next game is against Atlas on Sunday for El Classico Tapatio.

Glad to hear Galindo had a good game. Remember thinking it was weird he didn’t get the call from Sven for the next nats game.

Galindo had an excellent game, he was the best player out there. I’m sure he’ll be called up for the next game against Costa Rica, you just can’t ignore a performance like that.
Luckily the FMF decided to take off the possibility of any Chivas players from being called up for the game against Bolivia because the ones who would’ve been called up played really well.
