Borgetti Joins Chivas…No Joke
By: Andrea | January 15th, 2009
Like the title says, we’ve signed Jared Borgetti. To be honest I’m a bit shocked. I don’t think we need anyone up front despite his amazing heading ability. I think who we have are fine and Jared is too old. The contract is for 6 months because Jared isn’t sure of what he’ll do from now until then. The Chivas philosophy/project is what convinced him to come over from Monterrey. The 35(!) year old is a known prolific scored on the national team although his record in the league has gone down over the years.
In other news Francisco Mendoza, the kid from Chivas USA is here to stay. He was presented today as part of the team. Aaron Galindo officially joined the team in Guadalajara after taking a few days out to sort out a few things with his old team Eintracht Frankfurt such as his living situation over there, etc.
Those are all the transfers for Chivas because the window is now closed for Mexican football.
Out
Sergio Santana
Antonio Olvera
In
Carlos Ochoa
Sergio Amaury Ponce
Francisco Mendoza
Aaron Galindo
Jared Borgetti
Technical Team: Omar Arellano Sr.
So what do you think of the business we’ve done?

Woah Santana is gone? Damn I liked that kid.
And I don’t know how I feel about Borgetti. He’s getting old.. but he’s still decent.. hmm. I wont say anything until I see him play his first game but I’m not getting a good feeling from this transfer/loan.Posted from

Melissa- I know I like how Panchito is looking. I saw him play against Necaxa and you could see he was playing his heart out, it was more than a friendly to him. I’m glad he’s staying he’s a good addition to the team.
The Borgetti thing is concrete now. He’s not going anywhere for the next 6 months but perhaps after he’ll choose to retire in the MLS with Chivas USA. Who knows, this guy changes teams like he changes underwear.OhYes- Santana is gone. He was part of the trade for Amaury Ponce with Toluca. He’ll be part of the squad that will be defending the title. I liked him too but oh well he wasn’t getting enough time and at least at Toluca he might have a chance with Chepo. My feelings on Borgetti are pretty on par with yours. While he’s a good player and can show up at crucial moments he is old in footballing terms(35). We will have to wait and see him in his first game but with Monterrey he didn’t have a very good season(4 goals).

my goodness. with Blanco and Borgetti still playing it makes one wonder: does any Mexican ever retire? is Palencia still playing somewhere? maybe Luis Hernandez can sign up?…

I’m sure Borgetti will retire eventually. That’s most likely why his contract is only 6 months. Blanco’s 36 now and that’s why he went to the MLS, to retire although I think he has a bit left in him. But you’re right it seems like they never retire.
Last I heard of Hernandez he was at the salon fixing his hair…
Palencia is getting up there too(35 I believe) but he’s still with Pumas.
