100 ….. oh yeah, and Chivas won.

By: Edgardo | April 28th, 2008

After scoring number 99 more than a month ago against Pachuca, Omar Bravo kept everyone waiting for his 100th goal (that, or he couldn’t get it in the net.) After missing some clear opportunities against Necaxa, Atlante, America (how sweet would’ve that been – scoring his 100th against America) and Monterrey, Omar finally awoke and scored against Puebla.

I was hoping it would be some kind of unforgettable golazo – fans can still remember the club’s 3000th goal, scored by Jair Garcia against Colibries. i was hoping Omar’s 100th would top that, but even if a goal is ugly or unspectacular, a goal is a goal, and omar scored it. Or maybe if he would’ve scored like Avila.
I don’t know.

omar bravo’s 100th

Although the goal itself wasn’t very pretty, the build up was. Bravo made an excellent run after Sergio sent a through ball to Edgar Solis, who then passed to Bravo (i was screaming goal as soon as avila sent the through ball.)

To top off the night, Chivas won 4-0 playing very attractive football, and were relieved when Javier Edgardo (ha, Edgardo) Campora’s goal was called back. Puebla also seemed to play a little more relaxed knowing that they were safe from relegation, and the gaem could’ve easily been 5 or 6-0.

Another interesting point is the fourth goal. Although also unspectacular, it was Antonio “Hulk” Salazar’s first goal in the first division. Hulk is a 19 year old with a lot of potential and who is likely to get significant playing time next year if Omar Bravo leaves. Hopefully this is the beginning of a successful scoring career. Maybe he’ll score 100 and say something like, “I was there when Omar scored 100 and when i scored 100. Mine was better/lamer” or something like that.

CHivas finish the season on Saturday against Jaguares, and a win secures them the Super Liderato (first place.) It would be a historic feat, not because of accumulated points, goals, or such, but rather the first time America finishes in last place – and to top it off, Chivas in first place. Try living that down.

oh yeah, 100 goals, WOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooo

Great story about watching the goal. Congrats to Omar. I’m not proud, but I never get tired about hearing that America is in last place.
